With the fall TV season right around the corner (Look for a post new week breaking down the shows I’ll be watching!), it feels like the right time to get a couple of general housekeeping notes out of the way. This season is going to bring about some changes in how things run around here at NGN, so let’s get down to business!

First, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who’ve sent in letters so far for the book I’m working on. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve been moved to tears while reading most of the letters sent my way so far. Your enthusiasm, your honesty, and your vulnerability are all incredibly inspiring, and I can’t wait to share these letters with the world.

With that being said, it’s not too late to start writing a letter (or more letters). The deadline for submissions is January 1, 2016, so keep (or start) writing! Remember, letters can be sent to nerdygirlnotes@gmail.com, and if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask me in this post’s comments, on Twitter, or via email.

I plan to keep posting my own letters here, too—and that leads me to my next order of business. The posting schedule here at NGN is going to be a little different from what you’re used to starting in a few weeks.

I’m going to be honest with all of you: By the end of last season, most of the writing I was doing felt like an obligation rather than something fun. There were certain shows I was writing about that simply didn’t warrant weekly analysis posts, but I didn’t want to stop writing about them in the middle of a season. Luckily, I had the wonderful Heather to help me out, but it became clear toward season finale time that things needed to change around here if I was going to find my energy and enthusiasm again.

So with that in mind, I’ve decided to only write dedicated weekly posts about one show as of right now, and that will be Once Upon a Time. Once The Americans starts back up, that will be getting the weekly-post treatment again, too. Both of these shows lend themselves perfectly to my writing and viewing style, and it makes sense to keep them as the backbone of NGN’s TV section.

This means that there will no longer be weekly Castle or The Mindy Project posts here at NGN. I apologize to those of you who really enjoyed those weekly posts, but I hope you’ll understand my reasoning. Both shows have a lot of filler episodes that simply aren’t worth writing about if your goal is to do more than just a surface-level recap (which is always my goal). And with The Mindy Project‘s switch to Hulu, I’m not really sure what my viewing schedule for it will be, which would make writing about it on a regular basis very difficult.

However, there will still be posts about both shows (especially Castle) here at NGN. I could never abandon the shows I love completely, and I treasure our comment conversations too much to let them go. Instead of weekly posts, I’m going to choose select episodes to write about—episodes with a lot of depth and substance to actually generate good discussions instead of just talking about funny bits or crazy cases.

My goal for NGN this season is to post at least four times each week: a Once Upon a Time post on Mondays, a Fangirl Thursday post, a Best Thing on TV post on Sundays, and at least one other post of analysis or discussion each week.

That fourth post is designed to give me a little more freedom to write about a variety of topics I didn’t get to touch on last year because I had such a full weekly posting schedule. Some weeks, it might be a post about a particularly awesome Castle episode or an interesting thing that happened on The Mindy Project. Other weeks, it might be a post about Jamie Fraser’s perfection on Outlander or feminism on Nashville or the variety of wonderful relationships on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. At other times, it might be one of my letters for my book. It’s also my hope that adding this “free day” of sorts might get me back to writing more about books and movies, because I really missed doing that last year.

I’d love to be able to write more than just four posts each week, but this seems like the healthiest starting point for me right now. As you can probably tell by my lack of posts this summer, I needed to take some time to find a better balance so I could generate consistent, quality content but not lose my love for running NGN in the process.

Finally, as we near the start of another great TV season, I just want to remind all of you who visit NGN and engage with each other in the comments to be civil toward each other. I created NGN to be a safe space for people to share their enthusiasm, and I’m proud of the fact that—despite the growing negativity in every corner of every fandom—it has remained a place of kindness and positive, healthy discussion. Sometimes it can feel exhausting to try to stay positive in the face of so much negativity, but it’s my hope that NGN can continue to be a place for people who simply want to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with others about the things they love.
