I’m Katie Kawa, your resident Nerdy Girl.
I’m a 2010 graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., who majored in both English and Communication Studies (with a Journalism and Media Studies concentration). I’ve always been a passionate person, and I’m at my most passionate when talking about the books, movies, and television shows that I love. In 2012, I decided to put that passion (and my degree) to good use and start Nerdy Girl Notes as a place for other nerds like me to share our enthusiasm for the media and other things that inspire us.
In addition to running NGN, I work as an associate editorial director at an educational publishing company. I’m also a teacher at a local dance studio.
What else should you know about me? I enjoy talking about pop culture more than almost anything. I love sports, especially hockey, football, and college basketball. I take copious notes in the margins of my books. I have a running list of female characters I would defend as if they were real friends of mine. I cry over most things I read and watch for some reason or another. I wish I could make a living planning (and taking) vacations to Disney World. I would much rather find reasons to love something than find reasons to hate something. And I believe my entire personality can be summed up in the words of the great Leslie Knope: “If I seem too passionate, it’s because I care. If I come on strong, it’s because I feel strongly.”
