Nerdy Girl Notes turns seven years old today!
If you would have asked me back on April 2, 2012, what I thought my life would be like seven years later, that young woman’s predictions would have been very different from how things turned out. But all those years ago, I knew I wanted NGN and the incredible people who make up the little family surrounding it to be a part of my life for as long as humanly possible. And I feel so blessed to know that seven years later, even after so much of my life has changed, NGN is still here for me to share my hopes and fears and thoughts and FEELINGS with all of you—and even more blessed to know that so many of you are still here for me to share all of those things with.
NGN itself is so different from what it was seven years ago. It’s gone through different stages (How did I ever review five shows a week?!) and chronicled different obsessions, but one thing remains the same: It’s a place that is driven by enthusiasm and love. I still love being able to write whenever inspiration strikes and the timing is right. And that’s why I wanted to take this opportunity to fill you in on what’s coming to NGN in the next few months!
After what has felt like the longest hiatus ever, NGN is returning to weekly content starting the week of April 15th! I’ll be back with my final round of Game of Thrones Moment of the Week posts (and maybe more about the show as we lead up to its finale), as well as weekly posts about FX’s new limited series Fosse/Verdon. As a dancer, a musical theater fangirl, a choreographer, and a reader who devoured the Sam Wasson biography this is based on, I have been eagerly awaiting the show since its announcement last year and knew right away I had to write about it. I’m not sure what form my posts will take yet and they’ll be starting after Episode 2 (because I’ll be soaking in the magic in Walt Disney World during the premiere), but I can’t wait to share all of my Gwen Verdon feelings and Cabaret love with all of you.
The fun will then continue into the summer with coverage of Big Little Lies and maybe some fun posts about movies, which I don’t write about enough around these parts.
Needless to say, I’m feeling very inspired lately and ready to share that inspiration with you. And I can’t think of a better mood to be in on NGN’s “blogiversary.” This little corner of the internet was founded on the belief that everyone needs a place where they can unashamedly love things, and I’m so thankful that so many of you continue to embrace that mindset along with me.
If you’ve been here for seven years or seven seconds, if you comment regularly or would rather remain an anonymous reader, if you visited for a specific show or have followed me through more fandoms than we can count—thank you. Thank you for your support, your encouragement, your humor, and your heart. Thank you for your insight, your honesty, your recommendations, and your inspiration. Most of all, thank you for your friendship. I never would have made it to Year Seven without my NGN Family behind me, and knowing I have you in my corner makes me excited every time I open a blank document and get ready to write.
It’s been an unpredictable journey and a winding road so far, and I can’t wait to see where this year’s twists and turns and fangirl flights of fancy take us!
Happy blogiversary! I am so proud of you, Katie. I have loved watching the journey you’ve undergone as a person and a writer throughout the life of NGN from its conception to now. I cannot wait for all the upcoming content you have planned (and double yay for Big Little Lies posts) and to have another year with the best people on the internet.
To the rest of the NGN family, thank you for sharing your thoughts over the past 7 years (or however long you’ve been here). Whether its reading comments here, celebrating with each other elsewhere on the internet, or seeing you all in person, you have made my life better.
I knew you’d be happy to see that Big Little Lies will play a big part of what’s happening around here this summer! 😉
Your support, love, and generosity of spirit have made both NGN and my life so much brighter, and I mean it when I say I could only have kept this going for 7 years because of you and your friendship. Love you more than words, my beautiful tropical fish!
Happy Blogiversary! NGN has been my sanctuary for the last 6 years after stumbling into you Castlesphere. What at the time was a sanctuary within a depression opened a pathway to new found friendships, fandoms and most importantly a mirror to reflect and remind me of my best self. NGN is so many things. Driven from a place of joy, but I also treasure the fun deep dives, the analysis of minor pieces of dialogue and whole story arcs of characters. I love that it is a place for robust discussion and that it thoughtfully gave me different perspectives to see and understand while realizing just how much of my own voice is predicated on the experiences I bring to it. NGN is many things. But for me it remains the gift I never expected, didn’t know I needed, and couldn’t imagine having never found.
Every blogiversary needs some happy tears, right? 😉
I can never thank you enough for being so much of the reason behind those fun deep dives and discussions that revealed to so many of us how our perspectives and life experiences shape our reactions to characters, stories, and entire works of fiction. Your ability to always bring a fresh perspective and to offer a new point of view is such a huge part of why I always say NGN has the only comments section on the internet worth reading.
I thank the good Lord above every day for that Castle post that brought to NGN into my little world. My writing is better for it, but more importantly, my life is better for it.
Happy blogiversary, Katie! I’m so happy for and proud of you, 7 years is an amazing accomplishment and I am so glad to have gotten to experience so much of your writing and your joy over these 7 years, as well as met some of the amazing NGN family.
I’m looking forward to your posts for the next few months! I’m considering trying out the Fosse/Verdon series when it airs – not sure if it will be my thing or not as I know basically nothing about them, but I do enjoy watching dance/theater related things usually – and Big Little Lies has been on my catchup list for a while so perhaps that will be a summer project. Also I am thinking this may end up being a year of above average moviegoing for me what with all the Marvel movies, a few Disney ones, and Star Wars this winter, so if you ever feel inspired to write about any of the movies this year I would enjoy that!
Sorry — late to the party. I was out getting the confetti, the hot chocolate, filling the doctoberfest mugs, etc. Does everyone have their Peggy hats on?
Excellent!
*waves to everyone*
Sweetie! Looking forward to seeing how this all shakes out in the next few months. I love that you haven’t let the blog turn into your master, but that you felt that freedom to make it work for you — that you’ve ridden the ebb and flow of life and writing. Seven years is an incredible accomplishment — especially given that you’ve kept this a happy, welcoming place of nerdy analysis. Given today’s social media climate that is no mean feat. Here’s to more great posts, more lively discussion, and more enjoyment of story and community.
Happy Blogiversary!
