This weekend is one of the biggest weekends of the year for nerds of all kinds. It’s time once again for Comic-Con, and once again I’m sitting on my couch in New York wishing I was in San Diego, getting the inside scoop on my favorite movies and TV shows while seeing some of my favorite celebrities.
As I was scrolling through my Twitter feed, longing to be at Comic-Con, I started thinking of what other fandom-related things I would like to do at some point in my life. Some of these are realistic; others are slightly less likely to actually happen. I’m sure I’ll be adding more to this list as time goes on. That’s the beauty of being a nerd; there’s always something new to be passionate about.
Nerdy Girl Bucket List:
1.) Go to Comic-Con.
2.) Drink butterbeer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
3.) Hug Zachary Levi and/or Nathan Fillion.
4.) See a midnight screening of a superhero movie. (I can’t believe I haven’t done this yet.)
5.) Have a marathon where I watch all six Star Wars films in order on the same day.
6.) Finish Anna Karenina.
7.) Visit Ernest Hemingway’s house.
8.) Have an essay published in a Smart Pop book.
9.) Go to one of those events at a movie theater where they show previous films in a series before the new one’s midnight screening. (I’d love to do this before Catching Fire, Captain America 2, or the next Spider-Man film.)
10.) Meet John Green.
11.) See one of Team Starkid’s productions live.
12.) Stay at the Magic Kingdom until it closes at 3 a.m. during Extra Magic Hours.
13.) Get my sister to watch Firefly.
14.) Own the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled box set, and watch all of those movies over the course of a weekend.
15.) Build my own lightsaber at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
16.) Go to the Toronto International Film Festival.
17.) See any of my favorite musicals on Broadway.
18.) Have breakfast at Tiffany’s.
19.) Own hardcover copies of all of the Harry Potter books.
20.) Attend a midnight release party for a book.
Now that I’ve shown you my Nerdy Bucket List, I want to see yours. What gloriously geeky things do you want to do in your lifetime?
I would do 1, 3, 8, 10 and 16 with you!
same! agree with you on 1,2,4,5, 10, 15 and 20. I’ve already done 19.
I’m so jealous that you’ve done 19! I have Chamber of Secrets and the last three books in hardcover, so I just need to complete the set now.
only three more to go! 🙂 do you like the old covers or the new ones? because i really like old ones, maybe because i grew up with them and it’s like sentimental value, or they just seem brighter, idk.
I LOVE the old covers – they’ll always be my favorites.
I completely agree on 1, 2, 8, 12, 9 and 19! Also on my list would be to go to the ATX Television Festival, watch all of the highly recommended television that I’ve missed out on, see the Harry Potter Studio Tour, go to Disney World and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with a big group of friends, own a shirt or some sort of fun memorabilia for all the things I love, and meet Jane Espenson.
I started reading Anna Karenina earlier this year, and I was even enjoying it and then I just ran out of steam about a third of the way through. I need to get going with it again.
If you ever want a tour guide for your eventual trip to Disney World, just let me know!
And I’m about a third of the way through Anna Karenina too! I stopped last summer because it’s just such a big undertaking, but I really want to finish it before the film adaptation comes out. We should form a support group to help each other finish it!
Hey Kate….I can help you with a few of those!
All of these sound like tons of fun! I have done 10 and 19, although both of those I would love to do again – I am always up for meeting John Green for more than the like, 10 seconds, that I got when he was here on his book tour in January, although I feel lucky that he even stopped in Seattle so I’m still grateful at that opportunity, and also my poor Harry Potter hardcovers, especially the earlier ones, are kind of worn down and I probably should buy new ones someday.
Also, I think we should both have “see/meet Stana Katic” on our lists, of course 😉 I’d love to see a Castle panel at Comic Con with the core 4 actors someday, if I have the chance.
I think meeting Stana should be on the Bucket List of every Castle fan – if only so we can ask her exactly how she does her hair. 😉
